M: Er, you can take bus No.12, but it is usually very crowded at this time. Actually, it is just within walking distance. And walking there is even faster than taking a taxi.
W: Max, come and take a look at the photo. Do you still remember there used to be woods here? But now they give way to many tall buildings.
M: Of course, I do. And I miss those days when we played hide-and-seek in the forest. Well, the good old days are gone.
W: Zoe's birthday is around the corner. Anything you want to buy for her?
M: A pair of skating shoes, maybe. She really likes going skating.
W: What about a bicycle? Then she will be able to ride with her friends for fun at weekends.
W: Mike, don't you think this painting of horses simple yet vivid? It's unbelievable!
M: Absolutely. And that's the magic of Chinese paintings. Such paintings are gaining widespread popularity across China. You can see these paintings even in restaurants and offices.
W: I really love this art exhibition! Let's move to Area C to enjoy more paintings.
W: According to your professional background in your résumé, I know you once worked for a private company as a marketing director. But why did you decide to leave your former post?
M: Though I got on well with my colleagues and got good pay, there was a ceiling on my further promotion. I need a bigger stage.

M: Oh, yes, here it is.
W: I'm sorry. Shirts of this color are completely sold out. What about this blue shirt? It is of better quality with a similar design. But you need to pay five more dollars. Would you like to take it?
M: No, it is kind of costly for me.
W: Would you like to wait till next week? We'll have some new shirts coming in then.

M: Well, for one thing, you don't need to pay anything for it. Besides, it helps you keep fit. Forget apples. Actually, cycling is a good way to keep the doctor away. Most importantly, it has a lot of fun and really makes me happy.
W: Wow. That sounds interesting! How often do you go cycling?
M: I try to do it almost every day. Ellen, what's your favorite sport?
W: My favorite sport? You must be kidding. I'm only into sleeping.
M: Come on. Ellen, you need to do something. How about yoga, a system of exercises that helps you control your mind and body in order to relax? It seems to be catching on these days.
W: Me?Yoga?
M: Yes, yoga is great for girls. Even movie stars are doing that. They think it's a good way to lose weight. It can also calm you down and make you concentrate.
W: That's cool! I may give it a try. I have always been worried about my weight. You know, summer is coming. Practising yoga might be a good way for me to fit in my dress. This time I do hope I won't give up halfway as I did before.

W: Sure. When will be a good time for you?
M: Let me see. I can't make it tomorrow because I need to receive some visitors before flying to Chicago on business, and the next day I'm supposed to attend a meeting of our personnel committee. How about Thursday?
W: Hmm. I think I've already got something scheduled that day. Oh, yes! I have to pick up my boss from the airport.
M: So only Friday is appropriate. Friday is a good time for me. Will it convenient for you?
W: Friday sounds perfect.

W: Hey, Henry. What are you going to do after class?
M: I'm going to the bookstore on our campus. I need to buy some books.
W: What have you been reading recently?
M: Oh, I've just finished reading The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. The language of the book is so appealing.
W: Really?I've watched its movie version. I enjoy the fascinating plot and the colorful characters, especially Sherlock — he is so smart, knowledgeable and a keen observer.
M: Well, movies can be really interesting, but I prefer to read books.
W: Why?Are movies not faithful to books?
M: Not really, Elma. In my opinion, stories on the screens may not be as interesting as they are on the pages. You know, movies tell us everything. But books are different. When you read, the way you interpret the details in a book is entirely up to you.
W: That's true. Have you read anything else besides literature?
M: I certainly have. I like reading books on various subjects, and I read everything I can get my hands on. I don't want to waste my time.
W: You are so inspiring. I know books are good for minds. It's high time I read more books.
M: Then would you like to go to the bookstore with me when class is over?
W: Sure. I hope to buy some best-sellers. There is still much room on my bookshelf.
聽下面一段獨ξ白,回答第18至第20三個小題。現在你有15秒鐘的時間閱讀這三個小何林題。
W: My name is Sien Lagae, the founder of the non-profit organization Sewing Mouth Masks. Some people may ask me how I started the organization. Well, I'm a patient with lung problems. I have depended on caregivers for years. Recently, one of my caregivers told me she had paid 10 euros for a mask to protect herself from the flu virus. Not until then did I realize the severe shortage of masks. That gave me an idea. I could do something for those who once helped me — my doctor, my friends. I hoped they could protect themselves better. As a woman good at sewing, I came up with the idea of sewing masks for my doctor and caregivers. Quite beyond my expectations, a week later, what started as a one-person activity grew into a small army of at-home volunteer mask makers. I created a web page called Sewing Mouth Masks. For the first two days, 3,000 members registered. Soon, that number rose to 5,300. Therefore, I established the organization named after the web page and we volunteered to make masks for those who needed them. Now, we have plenty of volunteers. But it's still far from enough to relieve the shortage of masks. We still need more help. Anyone who wants to help is welcome, even if you can only make one a day. Come on. Join us and make your contributions.
